A nice change up to the burger on a bun! These grilled turkey burgers are so delicious with the healthy yogurt-tahini sauce and the pita pocket stuffed with lettuce is so fresh and light! If you choose not to make the sauce, you can simply use hummus. Enjoy!
Sauce (optional, can substitute hummus)
1/2 cup plain 2% Greek yogurt
1 tbs tahini (sesame seed paste)
1 tsp fresh lemon juice
1 garlic clove, minced
Dash of salt
Burgers
1/4 cup green onions (or regular onions)
3 tbs finely chopped fresh cilantro (or 1 tbs dry)
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp onion powder
1 lb ground turkey
Cooking spray
2 six-inch whole wheat pitas, cut in half
lettuce
tomato slices
Combine all of the ingredients for the sauce together in small bowl.
Combine onions, cilantro, salt, onion powder, and turkey in a large bowl. Divide turkey mixture into 4 equal parts and shape into a burger.
Heat grill (or nonstick skillet) to medium-high heat and place burger patties onto grill. Cook for 4 minutes each side or until done.
Stuff pitas with desired lettuce/tomato fixings and add 2 tbs of the sauce.
Enjoy!
21 Day Fix: 1 pita is 1 Red/Protein, 1 tsp, 1 Yellow/Carb with white sauce – if you skip the sauce and spread with hummus instead, the count is 1 red, 1/4 blue, 1 yellow.
